'He's broken every record'

New England manager Sam Allardyce was full of praise for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney when speaking to Sky Sports News.

"He's broken every record at league level, Champions League and international level," he said. 

"He's a very very good captain and you'll know if he's still my captain once I've picked my squad [on Sunday]."

When quizzed on where he fits into the England system - Roy Hodgson deployed him in centre midfield while Jose Mourinho has him further forward for United - Allardyce admitted flexibility is key. 

"We have to be flexible because sometimes we can't pick the player in the position he prefers. 

"If you are playing for England it's more about playing anywhere rather than just playing in the preferred position."
